Silk care

Although natural silk products may seem frail, they are easy to maintain, they are durable and will serve you for years. Their durability depends on the care provided, therefore, we have prepared instructions that will help ensure your silk products will serve longer without losing their wonderful properties.

Care of silk-filled duvets and pillows

Use of products

Silk fibre is delicate and sensitive, therefore, one should always use a removable and washable cover on silk-filled quilts and pillows since these products may not be washed. The wonderful properties of silk ensure that silk quilts and pillows do not need washing. We recommend not to fold the quilt straight after using it - let it air for a while and fill up with air or put it elsewhere without folding it completely. Same goes for pillows - fluff them to fill with air before and after sleep. The more air there is in quilts and pillows, the softer they will be and the faster the moisture retained during the night will evaporate. For additional silk pillow protection we recommend using an additional pillowcase or our special silk protective pillowcase.

Airing

We recommend airing silk products on a regular basis, since silk possesses a self-cleansing property. When aired, silk renews its initial state, the moisture retained evaporates completely, and the fibre becomes soft and airy. Silk-filled quilts, pillows and duvets should be hung outside in fresh air. Choose a sunny day for airing, while not hanging the silk products in direct sunlight, as sun may have a negative effect on the filling. Airing is recommended at least twice a year for two hours, while those suffering from allergies should do it more often - 1-3 times in three months.

Washing

Silk products cannot be washed completely, not even by hands, as water will make silk fibre less soft and delicate and it may even get tangled. Considering the unique properties of silk, the fact that there are no dust mites, bacteria or dust in silk - the usual reasons for washing quilts and pillows, there is no need to wash them if the bed linen is changed and silk products aired on a regular basis. However, if there is a stain, we advise washing the stained part only in cool water (not exceeding 30°C) and choosing natural detergent suitable for silk products.

Remember: if you use detergents that contain chemical substances, the product may lose its excellent qualities or retain traces of chemical products that could harm your health.

simb.PNGSoak the stain in a small quantity of water and wash it slowly. Do not apply force to rub it.

simb.PNGRinse with clean, cool water.

simb.PNGPlace the washed place between two thick towels so that they absorb the water.

simb.PNGThen place it in a cool place for it to dry out (not in direct sunlight or on radiators).

If the silk product needs thorough cleaning, we recommend that you go to the drycleaner’s. Please ask the drycleaners if they know the specifics of silk fibre and have already cleaned silk fibre-filled products.

Storing

When not used, we recommend storing silk products in a breathable packaging, in a dry place and not exposed to direct sunlight.

Care of silk-filled mattress toppers

A silk-fibre-filled mattress topper may be washed in one piece with hands in cool water, not exceeding 30°C. Use a natural detergent intended for silk. We recommend washing very rarely, only if it is really necessary.

Care of WashMe silk-filled pillows

The novelty from SilkSecret - an innovative solution in manufacturing of silk pillows. Silk pillows filled with Mulberry WashMe silk may be washed at home, even in a washing machine.

When using a pillow, the cover is the first thing getting stained. To keep the cover clean for as long as possible and avoid washing the pillow, we recommend using another pillowcase for extra protection or our silk-filled protective pillowcase.

If you choose to wash the pillow in the washing machine, please select the most gentle mode not exceeding 30 °C, repeated rinse and gentle drain mode. Please choose natural detergent suitable for silk or delicates. Do not use detergents containing bleach as they may damage the silk fibre. Silk pillows filled with Mulberry WashMe silk should be left to dry naturally in a warm place, in a horizontal position.

Important! Products filled with natural silk fibre should not be washed very often - repeated washing may reduce the natural silk fibre properties and value.
